EA Sports released a new trailer today for the newest addition to its annual FIFA soccer simulation.
FIFA 17, due to be released on Sept. 27 in North America and Sept. 29 worldwide, is the first in the series to be built on EA’s Frostbite engine. As revealed earlier this year, it’s also the first to include a story mode, featuring a fictional young player seeking to make his name in the English Premier League.
Today’s trailer, timed for the Gamescom event in Germany, focuses more on the general glitz of professional soccer, with a fast-paced overview of big teams, star players, popular coaches and grand stadium.
New additions to the series’ squad-building mode, known as Ultimate Team, include managerial tasks that can be completed via mobile companion apps, and which yield rewards, as well as knockout tournaments against other players.
EA also announced the Ultimate Team Championship Series, a new competitive gaming tournament with a $1.3 million prize pool.
“The popularity of Ultimate Team, combined with the global nature of the most popular sports franchise on the planet, makes FIFA 17 a very exciting title for a season of competitive gaming like the one we are announcing today,” said EA’s esports chief Peter Moore. “We want all players to experience the thrill of competition, and we have a great season ahead for all our fans.”
